I am never one to write a ton on my blog, mostly because it is hard enough to you to read a little, and partly because I will find myself boring. This is going to be different. I have been in vegas at the Anti-Workshop with the
Boutwell's and
Altf and I see a need to bore you all with what this week did for me as a photographer and more importantly an artist. Photography is art, visual art. I love photography because I love being able to make images that express an artistic idea or message, or that just looks cool. I have always aimed in my photography, yes wedding photography to make images that are art not just a good or even great shot. A lot of thought and ideas go into each photo and concept that I shoot. So when I get to be in a place where artist, great ones, are promoting and stretching each other to make art I light up and get inspired.
The Boutwell's and Altf are very thoughtful and talented conceptual artists. I was blown away being able to see the thoughts that went into the shots that they love and why they shot them the way they did.
John Cooper you make me sick! (In a painfully great way) Personally this week really challenged me to stay true to what I want to shoot and reminded me to never apologize for my work. It sounds simple, and it is, but it is very helpful. I do have a message that I want to convey and create with my photography and I am so excited to see what that means for 08-09 and how I can further "develop" those ideas. I want JNP Studios to be innovative and conceptually appealing photography that still makes beautiful images of people and their day.
I was so stoked for that kind of people that we had at the Anti-Workshop. Everyone was extremely talented and delightfully humble and fun to be around. I have to say that I did miss my wife a ton and can't wait to see her but this workshop was perfect. These are just a few images and if you are still reading I would love some feedback and any critique that you think could be positive and make it better artistically. Have a great day!
